Story Summary

Timo Kunnari, a journalist familiar with Jokinen, said Zürich had been serious about bringing him in. Kunnari also believes Jokinen remains well regarded in the European coaching market despite his HIFK exit and suggested Switzerland could yet offer an opportunity.

IHM Discussion
The Zürich interest is a meaningful detail in the assessment of Jokinen’s position after HIFK. It indicates that he had attracted the attention of a major European club before his circumstances changed in Helsinki. That interest did not produce a move, because Jokinen elected to stay, and Zürich filled its vacancy with Julien.
There is no confirmed next job for Jokinen. Kunnari’s view is that Swiss clubs could become interested again, particularly if Jokinen is prepared to work abroad. The decision will therefore involve both the availability of a suitable role and Jokinen’s own willingness to return outside Finland.
Why It Matters
His background includes work in Finland and Sweden, while the Zürich approach demonstrates that his name had already been considered at a high level in European club hockey.
For clubs monitoring the coaching market, Jokinen is an available coach with recent Liiga experience and previous SHL experience. Any future appointment, however, remains unconfirmed.
