Flames 3, Ducks 5: Gauthier sparks late reversal

Match date: 7 November 2026.

Final score: Flames 3, Ducks 5.

C. Gauthier broke a third-period deadlock with 1:34 remaining as the Ducks overturned a two-goal deficit to beat the Flames 5-3 on 7 November. Anaheim had trailed after two periods, but four unanswered goals turned a promising Calgary start into a sharp late defeat.

Game Story

The Flames made the cleaner start. W. Stromgren opened the scoring at 2:23 of the first period, with Z. Parekh and Y. Kuznetsov assisting, before J. Malott replied 27 seconds later for the Ducks.

Calgary rebuilt its advantage late in the period. J. Hanley put the home side back in front at 16:29, assisted by M. Frost and S. Nemec, then J. Farabee made it 3-1 at 19:02. M. Frost and Z. Parekh each collected their second assist of the night on that goal.

The Ducks began to pull the game back in the second. T. Luneau scored at 12:02 from J. LaCombe and L. Carlsson, cutting the margin to one before the second intermission.

A Flames penalty 17 seconds into the third was followed by L. Carlsson's equaliser at 00:55, assisted by B. Sennecke and M. Granlund. The game remained level deep into regulation, until C. Gauthier scored at 18:26 from Granlund and Sennecke to put Anaheim ahead for the first time. N. Nesterenko added the final Ducks goal at 19:46.

Turning Point

C. Gauthier's goal at 18:26 of the third period was the decisive moment. With the score tied after Anaheim's early-period equaliser, Gauthier converted assists from M. Granlund and B. Sennecke to complete the Ducks' turnaround and leave Calgary with too little time to respond.

Standout Performers

L. Carlsson had a goal and an assist, setting up T. Luneau's second-period strike before drawing the Ducks level early in the third. B. Sennecke and M. Granlund each supplied two assists, combining on both the tying goal and Gauthier's late winner. V. Husso stopped all 10 shots he faced in 39:40 after L. Dostal's 20-minute spell, while D. Wolf made 24 saves for Calgary.

Tactical Observations

The result turned on game state rather than a flood of scoring chances. Calgary established a 3-1 first-period lead, but Anaheim steadily narrowed the gap through Luneau before striking quickly after the third period began. The Ducks then held the tie until Gauthier's late goal created the only lead change of the night. Calgary finished with 21 shots, with eight stopped by L. Dostal and 10 by V. Husso. Anaheim registered 28 shots, and the Flames could not add to their first-period total despite carrying the early advantage.

Coach Mark Comment

The opening 55 seconds of the third period will stay awkwardly with Calgary. There was a penalty at 00:17, then L. Carlsson tied it soon afterwards, and a 3-1 lead was suddenly gone before the period had found any rhythm. Those are difficult seconds for any bench because there is no time to settle after the interval. The Flames still had most of the period to rescue the game, but Anaheim had changed the emotional weight of every remaining puck battle. Gauthier's goal at 18:26 was the finishing blow to a reversal that had started almost immediately after the restart.

What It Means

Anaheim left Calgary with a regulation victory built on four consecutive goals after trailing by two, including the late go-ahead strike from C. Gauthier. For the Flames, a three-goal first period was not enough to protect the result once the Ducks drew level early in the third.

What Comes Next

The immediate question for Calgary is how it turns a strong opening period into a full 60-minute performance. Anaheim, meanwhile, can take confidence from the way its late pressure produced the deciding goal rather than merely forcing a level finish.
