After the first day of NHL, the standout moment was, undoubtedly, Chicago’s victory over Pittsburgh. I, like many others, had expected a different outcome. Interestingly, it was the Blackhawks who eliminated Pittsburgh from the playoffs at the end of the previous season, with a remarkable 5-2 win on the Penguins’ home ice. Florida ended up ahead of Pittsburgh by just one point in the final standings.
It’s worth noting that Bedard registered his first NHL point, though it didn’t create a sensation. It was his debut game, and all eyes were on him, so it’s not fair to judge him too harshly at this point. Let’s give him some time, and we may discover his true potential.
On the faceoff dot, Connor struggled, winning only two out of thirteen battles (0-5 against Malkin, 1-6 against Crosby). However, such challenges occasionally occur for rookies. For instance, Beniers had a faceoff win rate of just 42.2% last season. Matt also had similar struggles at times. It’s a normal part of the learning curve for young centers.
It will be intriguing to watch Bedard’s performance in the upcoming matches.
